Chaos in the Skies: Passenger Charged After Alleged Assault on Flight to Sydney
Woman allegedly drinks own wine and refuses to comply
A shocking incident unfolded aboard an international flight bound for Sydney when a 64-year-old woman allegedly refused to stop drinking her own wine and had to be physically restrained by flight attendants during descent.
Passenger accused of consuming personal alcohol
The dual Italian-Australian national was reportedly drinking from a bottle of her own alcohol during the flight from Noumea to Sydney last Tuesday. When airline crew asked her to stop, she allegedly became verbally abusive and uncooperative.
Aggression intensifies during descent
As the aircraft began its descent into Sydney Airport, the woman’s behavior escalated. She allegedly refused to return to her seat, lashed out at the crew, and kicked a flight attendant in the stomach while they tried to restrain her.
AFP responds at Sydney Airport
Australian Federal Police (AFP) officers were contacted and removed the disruptive passenger from the aircraft upon arrival. She was assessed by paramedics and taken to a hospital in Randwick for evaluation. She was discharged the following day.
Multiple charges filed by federal authorities
The AFP charged the woman with multiple offenses including assaulting a flight attendant, disorderly conduct on an aircraft, refusing to follow safety instructions, and consuming alcohol not provided by airline staff.
Police issue warning against inflight misbehavior
“All passengers and airline staff have the right to feel safe and should not have to witness intoxication, violence or bad behaviour, particularly when they’re in a confined space in the air,” said AFP Acting Superintendent Dom Stephenson.
Court appearance scheduled in Wollongong
The accused is scheduled to appear in Wollongong Local Court to face the charges. The AFP reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on antisocial behavior aboard flights and within airport facilities.
