Despite the company entering voluntary administration, Albany residents can rest assured their travel plans are safe from Rex Airlines’ financial woes.
In a statement, the airline assured regional customers that the Saab 340 flights that travel to and from regional centres like Albany are unaffected by the administration and will continue to operate.
“Prepaid ticketholders will continue to have their tickets honoured by the Rex Group on regional routes,” they said.
The Albany Advertiser understands the administration will involve a “restructuring” of the company to scrap its plan to operate between capital cities and return focus on its original regional operations.
It is understood the company is operating on a five-week timeline, with an employee survey currently being conducted.
The trouble comes only one month after it started operating interstate flights out of Perth.
Rex is the only airline that flies passengers to and from Albany, running three direct flights in each direction every day.
Turbulence started last Monday when parent company Regional Express Holdings put a hold on its ASX trading.
On Wednesday the company put out a statement naming Ernst and Young as the administrators.
