Art and food will collide in spectacular fashion when the Art Gallery of WA unveils TIME Dining.
The exclusive dinners will see artist Tyrone “Rone” Wright and chef Guy Grossi, both based in Melbourne, collaborate on a four-course feast inside the stunning TIME RONE in AGWA’s Centenary Galleries.
The Italian-Australian chef behind Perth’s popular Garum restaurant, Grossi, says he will bounce off the themes of “time and memories” intrinsic to Wright’s work to curate intimate dinners for 16 guests across two sittings per night on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from September 5.

“Art and food go really well together,” he said. “For me, they resonate the same kind of emotions.”
Grossi said artists and chefs attempted to give people something intangible yet unforgettable.
“You’re creating an experience; you’re making a memory,” he said.
Costing $350 per person, including matched wines, TIME Dining would be a “luxurious, opulent experience” evoking old-school Hollywood glamour.
“I want to tap into that opulent feel, where you could expect Carey Grant to pop in, Audrey Hepburn to be there and maybe even Sophia Loren,” Grossi laughed.
“I’m thinking a little bit dark and moody, and the food will reflect that.”
You’re creating an experience, you’re making a memory.
Grossi planned to use the same top WA produce he serves at Garum and his restaurants in Melbourne and Brisbane, including Manjimup truffles, Abrolhos Island scallops, Fremantle octopus and other local seafood.
While the acclaimed chef catered for 600 people per night at The First Supper, the Leonard Da Vinci-inspired dinner series at THE LUME Melbourne, TIME Dining would be far more exclusive.
“I’m pretty stoked to be asked,” Grossi said. “This is something out of the box for me, which is fantastic.”
Wright said collaborating with Grossi was a happy coincidence.

“In 2018, I completed a large-scale mural at The Westin Perth on Hay Street where Guy’s restaurant is, so it feels serendipitous to be working with Guy to bring TIME Dining to life at AGWA,” he said.
In addition to TIME Dining, AGWA will host a speakeasy-style bar featuring a mid-century martini from top local bartender Andrew McIntyre.
Serving its first cocktails on August 28, TIME Bar will open Wednesday to Saturday from 5pm till late.
TIME RONE has been a smash hit with art lovers, and close to 50,000 people visited the ticketed exhibition in July.

AGWA director Colin Walker said the immersive exhibition hit the “sweet spot” of delivering something different and unexpected.
“TIME has the perfect combination of being a serious and seriously impressive large-scale piece of visual art that also melds together music, immersion and theatre,” he said.
“You feel like you’re part of a performance.
“Perth audiences are getting something new and utterly unique.”
Walker said TIME Dining and Bar add up to a “complete sensory experience adding another layer to a work that is already incredible”.
Tickets to the dinners go on sale from August 13.
