Police are probing the death of an elderly man in Sydney’s west after it took officers 19 hours to respond to a welfare call.
A concerned member of the public called police at 5.40pm on July 4 about the welfare of an 85-year-old Bankstown man.
But officers didn’t attend the unit until 12.30pm the following day.
Police started CPR and paramedics attended the scene, but the man was dead.
The Law Enforcement Conduct Commission has launched an investigation after police declared it a critical incident, sparking the force’s own probe.
The watchdog, which examines corruption and misconduct, said it will monitor the police response.
Police are also preparing a report for the coroner.
NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Brett McFadden will address the incident on Friday morning.
