The WA Government is set to deliver new reforms in procurement practices aimed at bolstering the local building and construction industry.
Following recommendations from the Master Builders Association of WA, the Building and Construction Consultative Committee and WA unions, the Government on Tuesday will unveil reforms to support the industry amid persistent challenges like labour shortages and supply chain issues.
Taking place this year, the first stage of the reforms will deliver changes to the Department of Finance’s contracting framework to improve cashflow for builders, while the second stage is set to further improve contracting terms, including alternative models of contract.
The third stage will be delivered in 2026 and enhance the Department of Finance’s pre-certification scheme, which will require builders seeking to do work with the Government to demonstrate they meet safe and fair standards.
The reforms will also deliver increased transparency on the tendering process.
“We understand this has been a challenging time for the sector, and we are working to ensure these changes improve cashflow for builders and increase transparency in the tender process,” Finance Minister Sue Ellery said.
“We are making structural changes to the way Government does business with industry which will ensure a fair go for everyone.”
